Puppet Shows
Far&Wide currently has three shows that are touring. These are solo
performances that combine storytelling and puppet theatre. They are aimed
at primary school and family audiences. Each show is based around a tale
from a different part of the world. They last 45 minutes and some are
suitable for outdoors.
THE FOUR ABDALLAHS
A story of eastern generosity. This Arabian Tale tells of a fisherman
who is down on his luck and is helped by a baker. When he follows his
wife's advice and fishes in a different place he nets a merman….from
then on his life is transformed. This story also tells how Joe Push,
the travelling storyteller met up with Mia, the far and wide cat, who
has many strange tales and many special powers.
FEATHER
TOES
A Native American myth about the origin of stories. A clumsy orphan
boy is shunned by his tribe and passes his days dreaming of flying. Indeed
it is in a dream that his dream comes true and he is blown by the wind
high up onto a magic mountain. The old man in the rock gives him a gift
and so the boy finds his power and becomes the first storyteller. This
story also tells how Joe Push first found out how to tell stories and
to listen with his heart.
A
SACKFUL OF SOUL
Traditional Jewish tales about a city of fools. This show is a connected
series of tales about the city of Chelm where everyone is a fool. Just
like Innuits have many words for snow, in Yiddish there are many words
for fools. Just imagine if the government and all the people always did
the most foolish thing they could…in Chelm they do! This tale tells
how the fools got to Chelm , how they fought a nearby village for no
good reason with their kitchen implements and a fiendish plot to capture
the moon. It also features Leonardo de Mish Mash the self-styled greatest
painter in the 'voyld' who tries to escape Chelm so he can paint wise
